I can't be stuck in this hole / but time, time's on your side

!Warning! This post has been rated V.L. - VERY LAME Continue at your own risk.

This weekend, I'm heading up to a wedding of an old friend of mine. There should be lots of people there, lots of fun, and lots of crazy stuff happening. I'm really looking forward to it. I've known this guy for a long time, and it's about time he got married so he would get off of my back on the subject of marrying his sister.

Anyway, the gist of what I'm saying is that I have no idea what to get him as a wedding present. Any ideas? :)

I like to give people muffin tins as wedding gifts. Everything's better with muffins.

Y'know what? There's really no material thing that's suitable for an old friend. People like to get old friends gifts that draw on the history between them--private jokes, complements to an interest you know is close to their heart, maybe something that you value and want to share with them... but what do you give someone who's getting married? It's not supposed to be about the history between you and your old friends, it's supposed to about them and their new spouse. And that pretty much negates the normal methods of gifting old friends. All you can do is show up to give them a hug and your support, and get them a nice practical gift to go along with it.

Like a muffin tin.

That's how I look at it, anyway.

Is it sad that I can have an opinion with this degree of nuance on a subject like watching my friends get married?

*blinks at Paul*

So this is quite late on my part *apologizes profoundly to Emmett*... What did you end up getting him?

I finally came up with a standard wedding gift to give to basically everyone...the problem is, one of the chicks who helped me come up with it is getting herself hitched now...
